Take out the camshaft bearing bridges as the initial step, then remove the camshaft (1). Running a suitable solvent along the camshaft will help clean it. Visually inspect the camshaft bearing journals for signs of binding; should binding be found, look at the cylinder head for damage and be sure the oil holes are working properly. Inspect the camshaft lobe and the bearing areas for unusual wear and problems, as well as the camshaft, should they be cracked. For the lobe, measure how much the camshaft has worn and change it if the system reads 0.001 inch (0.0254 mm) or more than the allowable 0.010 inch (0.254 mm) wear. First, put the camshaft (1) onto the cylinder head and then install the camshaft bearing bridges.
