2005 Chrysler Pacifica Air Bag Control Module Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Service an Air Bag Control Module on 2005 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: As a matter of safety when fixing the Air Bag Control Module and especially on cars with Occupant Classification System (OCS), never ever replace the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) and Occupant Classification Module (OCM) at the same time; when both modules require replacement, only the OCM needs to be replaced first, which must be followed by an air bag system test program including at least one minute of ignition-on time before the replacement ORC is installed since the OCS data calibrations are stored within both modules and transfer between the two modules during that one minute of ign By opening the hood and disconnecting the negative battery cable the battery will discharge 12 volt air bag system reserve capacitor in two minutes before separating where air bags may deploy accidentally. Then, take off the left and right front console closeout sheet, disconnect the two ORC electric connectors, the right side of the vehicle and uproot the three retaining screws that hold the ORC. One by the left side of the floor tunnel and the other on front and back sides of the ORC unit prior to removal of the ORC out of the vehicle. To install, put the ORC back in the vehicle and secure with the three retaining screws and torque to 14.5 N.m (128 in. lbs.), reset the two ORC electrical connectors and remount the left and right forward console closeout panels. Care should be taken not to connect the battery negative cable first since it may cause personal injury or even death to occupants. Lastly, check that the car and systems are operating then close the hood.
