2005 Chrysler Pacifica Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: What Needs Replacement and Inspection After an Air Bag Deployment on 2005 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: A collision that activates a Driver air bag means the Driver air bag, Driver air bag Trim Cover, Clock Spring Assembly, Steering Wheel and Complete Steering Column Assembly w/Lower Steering Column Coupler must all be replaced. Other air bag and vehicle parts should be reviewed and replaced if you notice any harm to them. Passenger air bag and Instrument Panel and Pad Assembly need to be replaced and checked the same way as other components after Passenger air bag deployment. The Knee Blocker air bag and Instrument Panel and Pad Assembly must both be changed after a Knee Blocker air bag deployment and other components should be checked. If a Curtain air bag is deployed, the Curtain air bag Assembly, Headliner and A, B and C-Pillar Trim on the deployed side need to be changed and other safety parts should be checked. Any time there is a collision, the Occupant Classification System components-the Belt Tension Sensor, OCS Module, Passenger air bag Disabled Indicator and Seat Weight Bladder and Sensor-must be inspected and replaced if damaged. Both the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) and the OCM should only be replaced separately, as doing them together might lead to major issues. The weights on the OCS must be readjusted so that weight sensing remains accurate. After completing the air bag test procedure, OCS is checked using a computer scanner and all relevant data. Either person who has been in a frontal accident with air bag deployment should have the Front Seat Belt and Retractor and all other belts checked and repaired as required. Also, check the Lower Anchors and Tether for children (LATCH) child restraint anchors to make sure they aren't damaged following an impact and replace them if necessary. It is very important to hold off on connecting the negative cable from the battery until the system test is finished to avoid danger to yourself.
