2005 Chrysler Pacifica Clock Spring Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Remove and Install a Clock Spring Assembly on 2005 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: Turn the steering wheel completely in the straight-ahead direction before doing any job on the Clock Spring Assembly. Put both front wheels forward, then unplug the air bag from the steering wheel and take the wheel off the column. After that, take out the upper and lower steering column shrouds and unplug the two instrument panel wire harness connectors attached to the receptacles behind the Clock Spring. Unscrew the two screws holding the Clock Spring case to the switch housing and remove the Clock Spring; it needs to be replaced if it is malfunctioning, showing damage or if your air bag has been used. If reusing the Clock Spring, secure the rotor to the case so that it stays centered until installed; if not, you must align it once more before installing it. Before installation, check your front wheels and arrange the Clock Spring rotor and case so everything is centered. Then, with the two parts in place, lower the Clock Spring down onto the upper steering column shaft by sliding itthrough. Fit the lower surface of the rotor hub so that the holes in the turn signal cancel cam line up with the three pins in the Clock Spring rotor, with the oblong pin from the top in the oblong hole. Place the one pin and two mounting ears on the Clock Spring case into their holes in the multi-function switch mounting housing and then attach and tighten the two mounting screws to 2.5 N.m (22 in. lbs.). Link the two wire harness connectors under the instrument panel to the receptacles at the back of the Clock Spring housing and then insert the upper and lower steering column shrouds one at a time. Use a screw to attach the lower tilting steering column shroud to the multifunction switch mounting housing tightened 2 N.m (17 in. lbs.) If you install a new Clock Spring, take out the plastic locking pin that holds the Clock Spring rotor to the case. When finished, join the steering wheel to the steering column, attach the driver air bag to it and make sure the negative battery cable is disconnected until the wheels are added. Test how the vehicle operates and then shut the hood.
