2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Brake Proportioning Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Proportioning Valve on 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Apply the brake pedal holder to push the brake pedal down, right past its first inch, before holding the brake pedal to keep the master cylinder from emptying into the brake system. So that you can handle the lower left rear proportioning valve easier, you might want to exclude the air cleaner cover and the hose to the throttle body. Take the brake tube off the proportioning valve you need to remove and unscrew the valve from the master cylinder. Gently rub lubricant on the O-ring for the proportioning valve, then set it into the master cylinder port and secure it with a torque of 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Use a torque of 17 Nm (145 inch lbs.) when tightening the brake tube nut to the proportioning valve. If you removed both the air cleaner cover and the hose, recall and refit them. Slide out the brake pedal holder and bleed the impacted brake line. You should take the vehicle out on the road for braking tests before making any decisions.
