2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Camshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Camshaft Seal on 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: The first thing you should do is remove the timing belt to service or repair the camshaft oil seal. With Special Tool 6847, remove the center bolt while each camshaft sprocket is held. Afterwards, uninstall the camshaft sprockets and the cover where the rear timing belt is located. Hold the camshaft with a heavy-duty tool, then fit Special Tool C-4679A between the camshaft and engine to release the camshaft seal, making sure not to harm the seal bore or the shaft seal surface. Before installing the shaft seal, polish the sealed area if it has any varnish, dirt or nicks, using 400 grit paper to clean it up. Seat the camshaft seals into the cylinder head with Special Tool MD-998306 in such a way that they are visible along the edge of the head. Hold each camshaft sprocket with Special Tool 6847 as you tighten the center bolt to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.). After that, insert the timing belt and cover the front of the engine.
