2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Oil Pan Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an Oil Pan on 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: The first step to servicing or repairing the oil pan is to lift the vehicle on a hoist, empty the oil and remove the oil filter. After that, remove the accessory drive belt splash shield. If the car is turbocharged, disconnect the end of the air cooler hose and oil cooler bolt (do not pull out the coolant lines from the oil cooler) and put the oil cooler aside. Remove the structural collar, the lower torque strut, the oil filter adapter and gasket and then remove the oil pan and gasket. Make sure the oil pan and gasket areas are clean before applying Mopar Engine RTV GEN II at the oil pump to the engine block part lines. Slip the oil pan gasket over the engine block, put on the pan gasket and the pan, then screw everything down to 105 inch lbs. Fix the oil filter adapter and gasket back in place and tighten screws to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.). If your engine uses a turbocharger, put the new oil cooler seal onto the oil cooler, grease it, connect it to the oil filter adapter, make sure their notches are aligned, position the bolt through the connector and tighten it to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.). After that, put on the oil drain plug and the new oil filter, then add the structural collar and lower torque strut, before attaching the turbocharger to air cooler hose assembly. Set the vehicle lower to the ground and pour the appropriate oil into the engine crankcase up to the correct level.
