2005 Dodge Dakota Steering Column Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Steering Column Cover on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: Prior to beginning any work on the steering column cover, read through all warning and caution information. Take off the end cap retaining clips with a trim stick C-4755 or the equivalent and remove the end cap. Pull the handle of the park brake release, undo the clip and pull the release rod off. Untighten the two screws. In addition, holding the C-4755 or equivalent trim stick, separate the upper clips and remove the cover. Lift up on the side tabs to take out the diagnostic connector from the cover reinforcement. Take off the screws and detach the hood release handle from the support under the opening. Unscrew the clip holders and use stick C-4755 or an equivalent to pull away the upper retaining clips and remove the metal piece over the opening. First, add the opening cover reinforcement and press the upper clips down until they are where they should be. Attach the screws, reposition the hood release handle and then add the screws on the handle. Put the diagnostic connector back in place on the reinforcement and press it all the way down. Set the column cover beside the reinforcement and pass the brake release rod through the hole in the cover. Install all the upper retaining clips and put in the bottom and side screws. Attach the release rod to the release handle and slide the attachment clip all the way into place. After that, fit the end cap in place and make sure all the retaining clips are seated properly.
