2005 Dodge Durango Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Master Cylinder on 2005 Dodge Durango?
A: To service or repair the brake master cylinder, first push the brake pedal five times to remove vacuum from the booster unit, then empty the brake fluid from the siphon tube in the reservoir. Take out the electrical connector for a low fluid warning and put a towel or rag below the brake master cylinder outlet port to prevent damage to the car from excess fluid. Pull out the brake lines, as well as the four bolts fastening the brake master cylinder. Remove the assembly, moving it away from the booster, trying your best to avoid twisting it sideways so you do not affect the booster output rod or move it out of place. If you're changing the brake master cylinder, bleed the system before putting it in place. See that the brake booster's output rod is properly in place and held by the output rod retaining ring to allow the plunger sleeve in the brake master cylinder to receive it. Check the shoulder area of the brake master cylinder flange and the neck for a square vacuum seal. Align the brake master cylinder on the booster mounting studs and make sure the plunger is in place above the output rod so it slides smoothly onto the studs once you begin attaching everything. Once the new mounting nuts are installed, tighten them to 10 Nm and after that install the brake lines and tighten them to 19 Nm. Connect the power connection for the low fluid level switch and top up and bleed the base brake system.
