2005 Dodge Durango Brake Line Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Repair a Brake Line Using Double Inverted Flaring on 2005 Dodge Durango?
A: Brake hose and line service and repair should involve using a preformed metal brake tube, unless no factory part is available; then, you can use double-wall steel tube for an emergency fix. Use a Tubing Cutter to cut away the damaged tube and use a Reamer to neaten the end of the line you just cut. After replacing the old tube nut, insert the tube from the front end of the flaring tool. Lay the gauge at the end of the tube and guide the tubing through the jaws of the tool until it comes into contact with the matching recess in the gauge. Close the tool bar on the tube, stick the plug into the gauge, raise the compression disc over the gauge and set the tapered flaring screw in its recess. Secure the tool handle while the plug gauge is sitting flat on the jaws of the flaring tool to make the inverted flare; pull out the plug gauge and finish the flare. Use an ISO flaring tool kit to do ISO flaring, always starting by cutting the damaged tube and removing all inside burrs first. Take the tube nut and slide it over the tube, move the tool up so the flaring tool rests square on the tube nut and tighten the tool support. Choose a size adaptor that matches yours, place it on the yoke screw, lubricate the piece where they touch and square it with the end of the tube by tightening the tool yoke screw.
