2005 Dodge Durango Intake Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair Exhaust Valve and Intake Valves on 2005 Dodge Durango?
A: To work on the valve, first you remove the cylinder heads, then remove the rocker arms and lash adjusters, then the camshaft bearing caps and then the camshaft. After attaching Tool C-3422-B or -C and Tool 8519, compress the valve spring and gently tap the valve spring if the locks do not come loose with a two-finger grip. Remove the two halves of the spring retainer lock, making sure you pay attention when unlocking the valve spring compressor, as there is a lot of tension in the valve spring. Once that is done, handle the valve spring compressor, spring retainer and spring separately, watch for sharp parts on their keeper grooves and trim down any burrs on the valve stem, before pulling the valve out of the cylinder head. Unscrew and remove the valve stem seal, then put a mark on the valve for good installation. Put clean engine oil on the valve stem andinsert it into the cylinder head shell, followed by installingthe valve stem seal and making sure it sits correctly with the garter spring. Insert the spring and the spring retainer, squeeze the spring down with the valve spring compressor and place the two halves of the valve spring retainer. Remove the valve spring compressor after ensuring that the spring retainer halves and spring retainer are in place. Grease the camshaft journal using clean engine oil, adjust the left camshaft at 11 o'clock and the right one at 12 o'clock by their sprocket dowels and then fit the bearing caps into the right place for the camshafts. Next, place the camshaft bearing cap retaining bolts, tighten them to between 9-13 Nm (100 inch lbs.) by rotating each 1/2 of a turn and finally line up the hydraulic lash adjusters and rocker arms.
