2005 Dodge Neon Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2005 Dodge Neon?
A: Before you begin to fix or repair the front crankshaft seal, take out the accessory drive belts, then the crankshaft vibration damper and lastly the timing belt. After that, with Special Tool 6793 inserted, remove the crankshaft sprocket while taking out the crankshaft sprocket key afterward. Be careful not to scrape or damage the shaft seal crusher or the inside of the shaft bore. Place Special Tool 6771 over the front crankshaft oil seal to take it out without harming the contact area on the crankshaft. To put the seal in place, put the seal spring towards the inside of the engine and then use Special Tool 6780-1 to secure the seal flush against the cover. Install Special Tool 6792 into the crankshaft using the key and position the sprocket's word "front" to the outside. Using Special Tool 6792 correctly ensures the crankshaft sprocket is set the proper depth to avoid the timing belt being installed out of position. At the end, reattach the timing belt, crankshaft vibration damper and all of the accessory drive belts.
