2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Knock Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: What Are the Installation Steps and Precautions for a Knock Sensor on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: The knock sensors are fitted onto the block under the intake manifold and you can see the LEFT tag and a bigger bolt head on the side nearest the cylinder head. It is very important that the PCM knows which sensors are in the left and right positions to prevent incorrect results. Remove the sensors by first unplugging the dual pigtail harness from the engine harness in the rear and then take out the intake manifold. Then, remove the two sensor mounting bolts, as the strip on the bolt threads is only to hold them to the sensors while you are putting everything together and should not be treated in any other way. Wipe the holes where the sensors were connected after removing them and then set in the new sensors in the cylinder block. Proper torque application for the sensor bolts is needed, since both under and over tightening might influence how well the knock sensor and spark trigger work. Tighten the mounting bolts after installation and then put back the intake manifold. Attach the knock sensor wiring harness to the engine harness on the rear of the intake manifold.
