2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Knock Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Install a Knock Sensor in the Cylinder Block Under the Intake Manifold on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: The two knock sensors are attached to the cylinder block through bolts, beneath the intake manifold. The LEFT identification tag on the left sensor shows it and its bolt head is also larger. Having the sensor left/right positions correct and matched in the PCM is important, so do not swap the sensors. Start by taking the knock sensor dual pigtail harness off the engine wiring harness at the back of the engine. After that, remove the intake manifold and all the sensor bolts, as the foam strip only helps hold them in place during production and not as a sealant; do not put any adhesive, sealant or thread lock on these bolts. After the sensors are removed from the engine, make sure to clean the holes around the knock sensor mount before attaching them back to the cylinder block. Proper performance of the knock sensor and uninterrupted spark control are important and so be sure to tighten the sensor mounting bolts just to the specified 20 N.m (176 in.lbs.) torque. Then, put on the intake manifold and link the knock sensor harness to the engine harness at the rear end of the manifold.
