2005 Jeep Liberty Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2005 Jeep Liberty?
A: Removal of the transmission and flex plate is needed before you can work on the crankshaft main bearing seal. Insert the edge of a 3/16 flat bladed screwdriver between the dust lip and the metal casing of the crankshaft seal and make sure the screwdriver doesn't touch the underside of the seal, but only the chamfer. Examine the crankshaft edge for any burrs or marks and sand them out with 400 grit sandpaper before setting the seal. Put a heavy coat of engine oil on the crankshaft flange; then attach Special Tool 6926-1 Seal Guide to the crankshaft and center the seal on the guide, with its lip facing the crankcase. Pound the seal into the block using Special Tool 6926-2 and stop when C-4171 bottoms out on the surface. Put back the flex plate, add Mopar Lock & Seal Adhesive to each bolt, fasten them to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.) and then reinstall the transmission.
