How to Maintain and Fix the Drive Belt on a 2.4L Engine on 2005 Jeep Liberty?

Before working on the drive belt of a 2.4L engine, always first remove the negative cable from the battery. Gently twist the tensioner until it hits its stop, then take the belt off and rotate the tensioner into the position where it is tenuous. The route of the new belt should be checked against the Belt Routing Label in the engine compartment, as any mistake can cause the engine to overheat because of incorrect water pump operation. Always inspect all the pulleys prior to any installation work. Around all the pulleys except the idler, place the belt, pinch the belt to the tensioner and rotate it until it comes to a stop. Settle all the belts on each pulley of the machine. Check the belt wear indicator; on 2.4L engines, the space between the tang and housing stop should not go over 24 mm (0.94 inches).
