2005 Jeep Liberty EGR Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix an EGR Valve on 2005 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before operating on the EGR valve, remove the cover and then disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the radiator drain bolt and next take off the electrical connector at the EGR valve. Then, disconnect the tubes at the EGR valve and its cooler and release the tube at the EGR valve housing. Lose the bolts that hold the EGR valve housing to the engine block and take off the EGR valve and cooler from the car. Separate the EGR valve and cooler by taking out the retaining bolts. When putting the EGR valve and cooler in place, first tidy the mating areas, assemble them to the housing with a new gasket, then tighten the bolts to 10.8 N-m (95 in.lbs.). Carefully put in the EGR valve/cooler and tighten the nuts to 26 ft-lbs. or 24.5 N-m. Screw on the new gasket to the EGR assembly, tighten the bolts in the EGR assembly to 32.4 N-m (24 ft.lbs.) and tighten the EGR pipe clamps to 7 N-m (62 in.lbs.). Put the EGR cooler hoses together, add coolant to the cooling system, reset the engine cover and finally continue with the negative battery cable.
