2006 Chrysler Crossfire Oil Pan Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service an Oil Pan on 2006 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: For oil service, first drain the engine oil and take off the splash shield by loosening its screws. After that, unfasten all three retainer bolts on the transmission oil cooler line and move the cooler lines aside and next, remove all lower oil pan retaining bolts and the pan itself. To replace the upper oil pan, disconnect the negative battery first, raise the vehicle and remove the splash shield and the lower oil pan. After that, detach the front exhaust pipes, unplug the oil sensor connector and unfasten the bolts on the front engine mount. Set the car low, pull off the engine cover and the dipstick tube and secure an engine support bracket so you don't end up raising the engine too high and causing harm to its surroundings. Secure the engine higher with the bracket, then raise the vehicle again to remove all 24 bolts from the upper oil pan and take the pan off the engine. Prior to installing, wash the surfaces of the lower oil pan and upper oil pan gaskets with Loctite 5900. Place a 1.5 to 2.5 mm bead of 5900 sealant on the lower oil pan, install the lower oil pan with 14 Nm tightness and then install the upper oil pan gasket. Fit the transmission cooler lines and their retainers into place, secure with bolts turned to 10 Nm and install the oil pan drain plug using a wrench set to 30 Nm. Secure the lower splash shield with the screws and tighten them to 5 Nm, lower the vehicle, put the oil to the indicated level and run the engine to see if it leaks. Before setting the upper oil pan, brush the gasket surfaces clean, spread Loctite 5900 sealant on the sealing area of the oil pan, fit the upper oil pan on the engine and use appropriate bolts: M6 X 20, M6 X 40, M6 X 90 and M8 X 30, first tightening M6 bolts to 10 Nm and then the M8 bolts to 20 Nm as labelled by the tightening order. Replace the lower oil pan, position the vehicle so it is back on the ground and slide the engine back into its hole. After lifting the engine, remove the bracket that supports it from below. Place the dipstick tube, drive up the vehicle, connect the front engine mount bolts to 35 Nm, attach the oil level/weather sensor harness connector and install the front exhaust pipes. After that, secure the splash shield and screws, lower the vehicle to the ground, put on the engine cover, check and fill up the engine oil and reattach the negative battery cable.
