2006 Chrysler Pacifica Exhaust Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Exhaust Valves and Intake Valves on 2006 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: After finishing the valve refacing process, check the remaining margin before addressing the seat of the valve. For proper seating of valve stones, you should use the proper valve guide pilot to get a full and correct surface. With a dial indicator, measure that the valve seat is concentric to within a total runout of 0.051 mm (0.002 inch). To use Prussian blue for inspection, use it to lightly coat the valve seat, insert the valve seal and rotate it slightly with pressure because proper contact will move some Prussian blue onto the seal face in the center. If you see blue on the top part of the valves, set the valve seat lower using a 15-degree stone. While a worn or burned valve seat can be repaired if you maintain the proper angles and width, you'll need to replace the whole cylinder head if there are any mistakes. The width of an intake seat should fall between 0.75 and 1.25 mm, while for exhaust seats it is 1.25 to 1.75 mm. Tub the top of the valve stem with engine oil and place the stem inside the cylinder head. Check the valve tip height if seats or valves have been refaced; if it is over 1.7185 inch for intake or 1.8102 inch for exhaust, file down the valve until it is correct, beginning from the surface of the cylinder head and going to the top of the valve stem. Place the assembled valve seal/spring seat over the valve guides and make sure the garter spring is still circling the top of the rubber seal. Fit the valve spring colored side up and the valve retainer onto the spring seat. Using C-3422-D valve spring compressor with adapter 6526, press the springs down, lock them into position and remove the compressor. If one or both of the valves and seats are refaced, measure from the top of the spring seat to where the lower side of the spring retainer meets the valve stop. If this is greater than 38.75 mm (1.5256 inch) after being refaced, put a 0.762 mm (0.030 inch) spacer in the counterbore under the valve spring seat to keep the spring height consistent with the specification.
