Before servicing the trunk or liftgate hinge, simply release the latch and liftgate lock and open the gate entirely. Use a proper lifting tool to support the liftgate in the up position; when it's open, mark its hinge location with a grease pencil. Unfasten the header panel from the upper liftgate area, next take out the roof nuts holding the hinge and unscrew the bolts that fasten the hinge to the liftgate, after which you can pull the liftgate hinge from the vehicle. Be certain to apply body sealer where the hinge joints with the door or body and, depending on appearance preferences, to paint the replacement hinge. Lay the hinge on the vehicle over the marks on the liftgate, insert the bolts and tighten them to 33 N.m (24 ft.lbs.) torque.
