• Q: How to Service the A/C Switch in the Control Assembly on 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser?

  A: For this service step, start by disabling the air bag system on cars with air bags by disconnecting and isolating the negative battery cable, then waiting two minutes for the capacitor to discharge. Take out the center bezel (7) in the instrument panel and disconnect the wiring connector for the clock, power window switches and accessory switches. Be sure to note where the control cables (1 and 9) were placed before you remove them. Unfasten the small retaining clips keeping the control cables to the back of (8) and remove the cables each from the mode control lever (2) and the temperature control lever (5). Unhook the harness connectors (3 and 4) from the side of the A/C-heater control and have the center bezel sit on a table. Lift out the A/C-heater control by removing the four screws (6) around the back of the black center bezel. To set up the A/C-heater control, take it and place it into the center bezel of the instrument panel, then fasten it with the four screws (6) to 2 N.m (17 in. lbs. of torque). Place the center bezel on the instrument panel and join the three and four wire harness connectors to the A/C-heater control. Plug the control cables 1 and 9 into the appropriate holes at the back of the mode door control lever (2) and the temperature control lever (5). After that, plug the wire harness connectors into the accessory switches, power window switches and clock, attaching the center bezel and rejoining the negative battery cable.
