2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Clutch Slave Cylinder Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Clutch Slave Cylinder on 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: The clutch slave cylinder needs to be serviced or repaired after making sure the brake master cylinder's fluid level is adequate and the reservoir cap is securely installed. Check the brake fluid and top up if required and after that put on and tighten the brake master cylinder cap. Set the vehicle on a hoist and follow it by releasing the screws holding the hydraulic lines in place without pulling the retainer yet. Take out the bolts that hold the slave cylinder to the transaxle and have a new slave cylinder prepared. Take out the old slave cylinder from the transaxle and detach it from the hydraulic tube and then on the same plumbing, quickly set the replacement slave cylinder and secure it with the retaining clips. To set up, fasten the hydraulic tube onto the slave cylinder and attach the retainer clips to make sure it's properly in the tube. Put the slave cylinder assembly into the correct spot over the transaxle and use a wrench to tighten the cylinder bolts to 19 Nm (168 inch lbs.) on 2.4L vehicles and 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.) on 1.6L vehicles. Remove the vehicle and inspect the reservoir for the brake master cylinder; add DOT 3 brake fluid if less than the full level is found. Empty the clutch hydraulic system and make sure the clutch release is working as expected.
