2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Ignition Lock Cylinder Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Ignition Lock Cylinder on 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: The Steering Column Control Module (Sccm) should be uninstalled from the steering column before you start servicing the ignition lock cylinder. Unscrew the holder attaching the Skreem/Wcm to the lock body, then release the Skreem/Wcm retainer fingers and pull it out. Shove the key cylinder in and move the key to the Run setting, then use a suitable tool to push down the key cylinder retaining tab and pull the key cylinder and key out. To remove the housing, unscrew the two solid Tamper-Proof Torx Plus (Five point) 30 bit screws on the column with the lock cylinder and pull the housing up from the column. Unscrew the attachment screw near the ignition switch and then pull the starter straight out of the holding areas on the lock housing. To properly install, position the ignition switch in the Run mode and the actuator shaft within the housing also to the Run position. Place the ignition switch so it fits with the hole, tabs and shaft in the lock cylinder housing, then snap the switch in and add the mounting screw, tightening it only to 2 Nm. Put the lock cylinder housing in the Run position, match it with the steering column and drive in the two screws, making sure they are fastened to 12 Nm. Activate the actuator in the lock cylinder by pointing it at the Run position, open the door with the key turned in the cylinder to the Run position. Press the retaining tab on your key cylinder into the slot in the lock cylinder, then move the key cylinder while the locking tab gets pushed down. Move the key to each side, then pull it out and put it back in for the correct function. Place the circle of Skreem/Wcm over the lock cylinder housing and after that, engage the retainer fingers. Finish by fastening Skreem/Wcm to the lock cylinder housing with the screw, turning the screw tight enough to 2.5 Nm. After that, put back the Steering Column Control Module and all removed parts and check that everything mounted on the steering column works correctly.
