2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Neutral Safety Switch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace the Neutral Safety Switch in a 41TE Automatic Transaxle on 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Start by removing the battery cables from the transmission range sensor of a 41TE Automatic Transaxle, then take out the air cleaner assembly, hold down clamp and the battery. From here, remove the battery tray and then disconnect the cable from the lever of the manual valve. Take off the transmission range sensor connector, then lift the vehicle up on hoist stands. Take out the bolts holding the oil pan, the pan itself and the oil filter after that. After that, remove the valve body to transaxle case bolts and the park rod rollers, then carefully detach the valve body from the transaxle by rotating the manual valve lever to low gear. Don't mishandle the valve body, to avoid any problems with the manual shaft pilot. Pull out the manual shaft seal and TRS screw, slide the transmission range sensor up the shaft and remove it. First, set the range sensor in place, attach it with the retaining screw torqued to 5 Nm. Attach the manual shaft seal, fit the park rod rollers into the guide bracket as you set the valve body onto the transaxle case and bolt them together with 12 Nm of torque. Put in the new oil filter, look at the o-ring and change it if you can see any damage. Use RTV and mount the oil pan. After that, set the oil pan bolts to 19 Nm. First, set the vehicle on its wheels, then attach the transmission range sensor connector and finally install the manual valve lever and the gear shift cable. After that, insert the battery tray, battery and hold down clamp, then the air cleaner assembly, reconnect the two battery cables and add ATF+4 into the transaxle (Automatic Transmission Fluid-type 9602).
