2006 Dodge Dakota Leaf Spring Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install a Leaf Spring on 2006 Dodge Dakota?
A: Raise the back of the vehicle with a jack or hoist so that the lift is attached to the frame rail crossmember found behind the rear axle, to prevent bending the side rail flange. Place the vehicle on jack stands at the frame and use a hydraulic jack to lighten the axle. Next, take out the wheel and tire together and after that, remove the axle's two nuts, U-bolts and spring plate. Take out the bolt and then get rid of the flag nut through the access hole you find at the front of the spring. After that, take out the bolt and nut that hold the spring shackle to the rear bracket, pull the spring out of the vehicle, then take the shackle off it. To install, place the spring shackle first on the spring finger tight. Place the spring over the rear axle pad with the center bolt inside the pad locating hole. Attach the spring eye at the bolt hole in the front frame bracket, slide the spring eye bolt and flag nut into the access hole and tighten the bolt by hand. Hang the spring shackle's eye over the bolt hole in the rear bracket, put in the bolt and nut and fix the nut by hand. Put the U-bolts, spring plate and nuts in place, then tighten the nuts by hand to 149 Nm (110 ft. lbs.). Fit the wheel and tire to the car again, remove the support stands and let the vehicle hang from the springs. Tighten the front spring eye bolt and flag nut and the rear spring eye bolt and shackle nut and bolt, as well as the shackle to frame, using 170 Nm (125 ft. lbs.).
