2006 Dodge Dakota Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Front Suspension Shock Absorber on 2006 Dodge Dakota?
A: First, remove the shock nuts from the top of the vehicle's front suspension to service and repair the shock assembly. Put the vehicle up and lift it and after that, remove the tire and wheel assembly. After that, disconnect the wheel speed sensor route by undoing its clip and removing the bolts that keep the disc brake caliper in place. Remove the upper ball joint nut, then use special tool 8677 to separate the ball joint from the knuckle. Hold the lower control arm where it is attached to the frame outboard, loosen and take out the lower nut holding the stabilizer link to the lower control arm which releases it from the lower control arm so you can get to the lower nut on the shock. Reach underneath and remove the lower shock bolt and nut; afterward, remove the shock. When mounting, place full vehicle weight on all suspension parts and tighten them up. Hold the new shock upside-down and attach its top to the frame by screwing it in with the provided bolts which should get a total tightness setting of 61 Nm. Assemble the shock so that the lower part of the shock is in the bushing on the lower control arm and push the shock module to the lower control arm. Screw on the bolt with the head holding the head towards the back of the vehicle. Tighten the bolt and nut to 210 Nm by hand. Bind the lower nut of the stabilizer link to the lower control arm, then secure it using 102 Nm. Put the ball joint onto the steering knuckle and screw the ball joint nut until you reach 95 Nm. Press the wheel speed wire into the retaining brackets, insert and tighten the caliper slide pin bolts to 32 Nm. Take away the support from the lower arm outboard end, add the tire and wheel again, remove the support and allow the car to lower.
