2006 Dodge Durango Intake Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair Exhaust Valves and Intake Valves on 2006 Dodge Durango?
A: Before working on the valves and seats for both sides, remove the cylinder heads. You should first take out the rocker arms and lash adjusters, then the camshaft bearing caps and finally, the camshaft. With Tool C-3422-B or C-3422-C Valve Spring Compressor available and Tool 8519 Adapter connecting the two, you must press on the top of the valve spring to loosen the locks holding the spring retainers in place. Gently unfasten both halves of the spring retainer lock, ensuring not to let go of the valve spring as it is pressing down on them when you let go of the compressor. Once the other things are secure, release the valve spring compressor, then the retainer and the spring and check the keeper grooves for any sharp edges, smoothing out the valve stem before taking out the valve from the head. Intake and exhaust valve stem seals are the same, so once you remove one, make sure you mark the valve before installing it. It's best to check the valve springs and test them for possible reuse when taking out the valves. Inspect each spring for holes, bends and general wear and measure its load using Tool C-647; no springs that do not meet the standard should be included. Apply clean engine oil to the valve stem and set it into the cylinder head, followed by sealing the stem and making sure the garter spring is in good shape and covers the edge of the seal. After that, set the spring and spring retainer, use the valve spring compressor to tamp them down and place both halves of the spring retainer. Relax the compressor, then double-check that the retainer halves and the spring retainer slide in all the way. Smear engine oil on both camshaft journals, place each camshaft with its sprocket dowel at the correct position on its side and fit the camshaft bearing caps in place. After that, set the retaining bolts for the camshaft bearing cap to 11 Nm (100 inch pounds) by tightening them 1/2 turn at a time, according to the sequence described in the instructions and place the hydraulic lash adjusters and rocker arms in their correct places.
