2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Wiper Arm Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install Wiper Arms on the Front and Rear on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Raise the end of the wiper arm away from the glass to lock it backward, then push on the spring end to loosen it. Gently remove the plastic nut cap and then take out the nut holding the wiper arm to the wiper pivot shaft shaft. A battery terminal puller can be damaging to the front wiper arm, so try not to use one. Rock the wiper arm very slightly to unhook it from the pivot shaft and take out the arm. Prior to installation, move the ignition to On, push the right switch button and watch the wipers stop moving, then set the ignition to Off. Adjust the front wiper arms so they fit onto the pivot shafts when the motor is set to the park position, placing the blade's lower edge at the same level as the "T" marks in the lower portion of the windshield. Pull up a bit on the wiper arm to reduce the spring's tension and then squarely press the pivot end over the pivot shaft. Screw the nut onto the pivot shaft and tighten it to a torque of 21 N.m (16 ft. lbs.) Spray the windshield with water, turn on the front wipers, place the switch in Off and inspect the wiper arm to know if you need to adjust it before you replace the plastic cap. To remove the plastic cap on the rear wiper arm, put a small screwdriver into the notch on the tip of the large end and lift gently. Take out the bolt that holds the arm to the rear wiper motor output shaft, not using a battery terminal puller. Raise the arm and use a little shaking movement to free it from the shaft connected to the park. Turn the ignition to On, move the rear wiper switch to Off and wait for the motor output shaft to stop moving before shutting the ignition. With the motor parked, stack the rear wiper arm on the liftgate, making sure the tapered side faces the output shaft from the motor and place the support on the park ramp. Drop the wiper arm commanding disk into the base of the wiper arm shaft, attach the rear wiper arm with the nut and ensure it is secured to 10 N.m (86 in. lbs.), air-spray the glass on the lift gate and put the lift gate wiper arm through its cycle, set to Off, then check the arm's support level and adjust to match the view by taking it off the park ramp and repositioning the plastic cap on top, locking it in place with a firm hand.
