2006 Jeep Liberty Cigarette Lighter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service the Cigarette Lighter Auxiliary Power Outlet on 2006 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before servicing the auxiliary cigarette lighter, first take out and isolate the battery's negative cable. Either remove the cigarette lighter knob and element from the base or remove the snap-on cap from the outlet base on the power station. On the underside of the receptacle you may find the rectangular bosses that help secure the unit in the instrument panel. Grab the ends of the keys with external snap ring pliers, squeeze the pliers to loosen the keys and slowly turn the pliers to lift the base out of the mount. Pull the base of the receptacle back nearly to the point where the wire harness connector is visible and separate the connector from the fastening base. Tilt back the mount and take it from the instrument panel so it is out of the way. Once you have installed on the instrument panel, use a thin tool such as a hairbrush or toothpick to push the connector into place on the base. Press down until the retaining bosses start engaging. After that, fit the cigarette lighter knob and seat or seal back onto the lighter and reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
