2006 Jeep Liberty Starter Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Starter Motor on 2006 Jeep Liberty?
A: First, remove the negative terminal from the battery and lift and support your vehicle before starting the rest of the starter motor service. After removing the two bolts, lower the left exhaust downpipe slightly to give access to the front propeller shaft for removal. Follow that by removing the two starter heat shield bolts located at the side, the starter heat shield nut at the front and then taking off the starter heat shield. Remove the wire connector from the solenoid terminal and take out the battery cable eyelet from the starter solenoid stud. Loosen the two bolts on the starter mounts and position the front facing the rear. Continue to rotate the starter so the solenoid ends up below the starter when mounted. Move the starter between the exhaust pipe and the transmission bellhousing very carefully. During setup, place the starter so that the front is at the rear, with the solenoid sitting below. Then put it between the transmission bellhousing and exhaust pipe. Maneuver the starter into the bellhousing and insert both bolts, tightening them to 54 N.m. Reattach the battery cable and nut to the starter solenoid terminal, secure them by tightening to 11 N.m. Attach the solenoid connection to the solenoid terminal, put the starter heat shield into place and tighten the front nut, then fit the two starter heat shield bolts to the sides. Put the front propeller shaft back and attach both flange bolts holding the left exhaust to the crossover pipe. After that, Bring the vehicle down and attach the negative battery cable to the battery.
