- Q: How to Service the Cigarette Lighter Auxiliary Power Outlet on 2006 Jeep Wrangler?A: Before doing anything on the cigarette lighter, detach and isolate the battery negative cable. Take off the cigar lighter knob and element from the base of the device or unsnap the security cap on the cigarette lighter base. Inside the base of the receptacle, look for the rectangular retaining bosses that hold it to the instrument panel. Apply the ends of the snap ring pliers to the retaining bosses, then squeeze them to release the pliers and, while gentle, rock the base to pull it out of the mount. To reach the connector, pull the infotainment unit's base out from the instrument panel, then remove it from the connector on the base. Take the mount out of the instrument panel. Reattach the wire harness connector to the receptacle base next and then install the mount once again in the instrument panel, making sure the splines on the base line up with the grooves in the mount. Press hard enough so that the retaining bosses go all the way in. Then, install the cigar lighter knob and element or the protective cap and link the battery negative cable back up.
