2006 Jeep Wrangler Oil Pan Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service an Oil Pan on 2006 Jeep Wrangler?
A: First, take off the air cleaner and lift the vehicle on a hoist to drain the engine oil. Take off the bolts of the mounts and detach the exhaust pipe from the manifold. If the car has these, detach the structural collar and front axle mounting bolts, then suspend the axle as far as it will go. Hold Special Tool 8534 against the fender lip, with the slots in the brackets matching the fender holes and attach them with four M6 X 1.0 X 25 mm flanged cap screws. Adjust the thumbscrews to fasten the sleeves to the support tube and stand the support tube up after that. Attach the flat washer, thrust bearing, hook and T-handle to each other and next place the capscrew from the fixture through the hole in the engine front cover and the hook to secure the chain and support the motor as necessary. Loosen and remove the bolts that connect the oil pan and take out the oil pan itself. Next, clean both the oil pan and all places where the gaskets touch. During installation, put the oil pan gasket into the block and use Mopar Engine RTV to create a 3 mm (1/8 inch) bead along the oil pump to engine block joining area. Set the pan, tighten the screws to the suggested 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.), lower the engine and remove Special Tool 8534. Fix the thru bolts on the engine mounts, install the front axle into place and use the front axle mounting bolts if they are still there. Attach the exhaust pipe to the manifold, add a structural collar if you have one, lower the vehicle, fill the engine crankcase with the right oil and set the air cleaner assembly into place.
