2007 Chrysler Aspen A/C Clutch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install an A/C Clutch on 2007 Chrysler Aspen?
A: After aligning the dowel pin on the back of the compressor clutch field coil with the hole in the A/C compressor, place the field coil on the compressor so that its wire lead is not caught between the compressor and ring belt. The compressor clutch field coil should be attached to the compressor with a new snap ring and the bevel should face outward and the eyelets should be to one side of the dowel pin. With the use of Snap Ring Pliers 9764 or an alternative, fit the snap ring on the compressor clutch field coil and make sure it remains in the groove. Make sure you do not harm the inside parts of the pulling ring and the bearing during installation to prevent early clutch wear. Attach the pulley and bearing to the A/C compressor and lightly tap it with a block of wood if you have to. Make sure a new snap ring is put on the belt side of the pulley and bearing assembly, so the bevel side points outwards. Using similar pliers to 9764, put the snap ring in place to secure the pulley and bearing assembly, ensuring that it goes in fully. If you are reusing the old clutch plate and pulley and bearing assembly, reinstall the shim(s) that were there before; otherwise, put two shims, each 2.54 mm thick, from your trial stack on the compressor shaft before attaching the clutch plate in front of the compressor. Close the compressor with the bolt in place and apply a tightening force of 19 Nm to it. Be sure to check the air gap in several areas after tightening, first rotating the pulley. For cars with a sunken clutch plate, a 90° wire gauge is used; for others, put a blade type feeler gauge inside the gap and make sure it is between 0.35 - 0.60 mm. Adapt shims to fit the air gap properly. Carry the compressor clutch coil wire lead behind the bridge of the connector bracket, connect the bridge to the bracket and fasten the engine wire harness to the compressor clutch field coil connector. After that, install the accessory drive belt, radiator fan and shroud, put the upper radiator hose in place and fix the clamp, fit the air intake hose, refill the cooling system and plug the negative battery cable back in.
