2007 Chrysler Aspen Crankshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How is a Crankshaft Installed in an Engine on 2007 Chrysler Aspen?
A: First, confirm that the main bearings are chosen correctly for the crankshaft to fit properly. Rub some clean oil on the bearing halves near the top of the piston and gently lower the crankshaft into the cylinder block, remembering not to damage the bearings. Add the thrust washers and lay sealant in the grooves of the mating surface between the bedplate and cylinder block to prevent major oil leaks, after you've made sure all contaminants are off the surfaces. Spread a 2.5 mm (0.100 inch) thick layer of Mopar® Gen II Silicone Rubber Adhesive sealant over where the bedplate will touch the cylinder block, coat the crankshaft main bearing journals with clean engine oil and set the bedplate in place. Add a thin layer of clean engine oil to the bedplate retaining bolts before they are installed, after which you place them, confirming the root of the stud bolts is reached correctly. Tighten torque bolts A - L to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.), tighten bolts 1 - 10 to 2.8 Nm (25 in. lbs.) and then turn them another 90°. Put 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) of torque on bolts A1 - A6. Check the crankshaft end play after that, now attach the connecting rods to inspect the side clearance. Put the oil pan gasket/windage tray, using a fresh o-ring, in the right place, then torque the bolt and nuts of the oil pickup tube to 28 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). After that, install the oil pan and tighten the holding bolts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.) in the listed order, without putting the engine in place.
