2007 Chrysler Pacifica Piston Parts and Q&A
Q: How Are Pistons Installed into the Bore with Connecting Rod Assemblies on 2007 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: Making sure that the compression ring gap is not lined up with the oil ring, put the piston into the bore so that the arrow is towards the engine's front side, unless the engine doesn't have an arrow. Butt the ends of the oil ring expander together and make sure the rail gaps are correct before fixing the ring compressor in place. Pour some clean engine oil on the piston and rings and next, fit a ring compressor over them, making sure to tighten it by hand only so you don't move the rings from their place. Lay the upper bearing on the connecting rod and put a small amount of oil onto it. If the bolts are cracked, put connect rod bolt protectors on them or else use tool #8189. On each piston, there is an "F" near the pin or a top arrow; install the piston with this mark pointing to the front of the engine on the cylinder banks so that the oil squirt hole is on the engine's major thrust side. After rotating the crankshaft, make certain the connecting rod journal is in the middle of the cylinder bore and then tap on the piston to put it into the cylinder, making sure to guide the connecting rod into its journal as you do this. Place the lower bearing shell and matching connecting rod cap in position, then put in the retaining nuts on oiled rod bolts and tighten them to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) plus an additional 1/4 turn. First, tighten the connecting rod bolts to 7 Nm (5 ft. lbs.), followed by 21 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) and then turn them 90° so the final clamping load is applied. Do these steps for all the pistons and connecting rods and after that, put in the cylinder heads and the oil pan. Make sure the engine crankcase has the correct amount of oil and link the negative battery cable.
