2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Remove an Air Bag for Service and Repair on 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: First, open the hood and disconnect the negative battery cable before you wait two full minutes to let the air bag system reserve capacitor drain completely. Place the steering column as high as you can go. Work at each side of the steering column by prying out the uppers corners of the under column cover with a trim stick. To release the loop tabs, rest the cover downward and pull the column slightly outward, then reach down through the center to press down on the ends of the loop to unclip them from the reinforcement. Unscrew one of the two screws on the left instrument panel end cap, carefully release the end cap and disconnect the power mirror electrical connector if your car has one. Unscrew the two upper screws from the knee blocker air bag trim cover, both on the sides of the column. Push your hand through the instrument panel opening on the left of the dashboard to grab the hook and loop trim cover of the knee blocker air bag from above. After that, loosen the torx screws holding the knee blocker air bag to the instrument panel, as the trim cover will naturally come off at the lower hooks.
