2007 Dodge Caliber A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the A/C Condenser to Avoid Compressor Damage on 2007 Dodge Caliber?
A: When handling a car's A/C refrigerant system, always remember to adjust the oil level to protect the A/C compressor. For just an A/C condenser replacement, you need to use 20 milliliters (0.7 fluid ounce) of this oil, making sure it's an oil designated for your car's A/C compressor. Anytime a refrigerant line is opened, be sure to change the O-ring seals and gaskets to prevent leaks. Gently side the A/C condenser on the front of the radiator, then secure both of its upper brackets to the radiator. For those with the 2.0L diesel, put in the charge air cooler. If the cooling system uses an automatic transmission, connect the lines to the left side of the A/C condenser and then raise and support the car. Set the bolts into the lower brackets for the radiator and lower condenser, then tighten them until you reach 4.5 Nm. With these types of engines, find the A/C liquid line under the bottom of the front fascia. Cut off the old tape or plugs attached to the liquid line fitting and the condenser outlet port, lubricate a new gasket, place it against the liquid line fitting and add a new O-ring seal for the R-134a system. Screw the A/C liquid line into the A/C condenser and make sure the retaining nut hit 5 Nm (44 in. lbs.). Set the vehicle down again and work on the discharge line fitting and condenser inlet port the same way, always making sure to use a new O-ring seal and gasket. While dealing with gas engine models, move the radiator back a little and connect the A/C discharge line. Remember to tighten the securing nut to 5 Nm (44 in. lbs.). If your car has an upper radiator support, reposition it and install it; for diesel models, install the front fascia too. Allow the engine to rest until the negative battery cable is put back in place; once back, do not run the engine with a vacuum pump because it might damage the compressor inside the A/C system. Empty the system of refrigerant, put in the right amount of refrigerant oil if the A/C condenser is replaced and charge the refrigerant for the A/C.
