2007 Dodge Dakota Timing Cover Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Timing Cover on 2007 Dodge Dakota?
A: To take care of the timing cover, first cut the negative cable to the battery and drain the cooling liquid before working on it. After that, uninstall the electric cooling fan and its housing and then take out the radiator fan. Remove both ends of each heater hose: one from the timing cover and the other from the radiator on the engine. Get rid of the following items: accessory drive belt tensioner assembly (1), crankshaft damper, generator and A/C compressor. Factory-sealed front cover connection with the engine block uses an anaerobic sealer only; service requires using Mopar(R) Grey Engine RTV sealant. You don't have to remove the water pump when you take out the timing cover. Afterwards, unscrew the bolts connecting the timing cover to the engine block and take the cover off.
