You should make sure the engine is not hot before trying to service or repair the oxygen sensor to stay away from the hot parts of the exhaust manifold and pipes. Support the vehicle by raising it. If you need to remove the right-upstream (2/1) sensor on a 4-sensor vehicle, you'll also have to loosen the right-front tire/wheel and the plastic inner fender liner. Release the connection from the O2S sensor, but do not grip the wire itself when you do this. You should use a special tool to take out and install the oxygen sensor and afterward, apply the proper tap to clean the threads in the exhaust pipe. Don't use grease on the oxygen sensor wiring connector and refrain from soldering the sensor wiring harness.
