2007 Dodge Nitro Oil Pan Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace an Oil Pan on 2007 Dodge Nitro?
A: Before attempting to remove or replace the oil pan on a 4x2 vehicle, remove and isolate the negative battery cable, fit the engine support fixture and lift the vehicle high enough to access the pan. Remove the front wheels and the skid plate, if present and then drain the engine oil. Record where the front lower control arm bolts are set and remove them; then, disconnect the loose tie rod, free the lower ball joint and remove the LH strut clevis. After that, remove the front axle and its support brace bolts, then remove the front prop shaft and allow the front axle to drain. Jack up the front axle with a transmission jack and take out the bolts on the axle bracket. Because the RH axle is intact, you should remove the front differential, transmission oil cooler line bracket and finally the engine to transmission stiffening bracket. Place Special Tool 8534 under the fender lip and, holding it so that the brackets' slots are over the corresponding fender holes, fasten the brackets with four M6 X 1.0 X 25 MM flanged cap screws. Use the thumbscrews to attach the sleeve support and keep the support tube straight. Place the flat washer, thrust bearing, hook and T-handle in place, then hook the chain to the engine lifting stud with the M10 X1.75 mm flanged nut the support fixture provides. Detach the engine mounts, loosen and remove the pan bolts and carefully lift the pan off the engine without forcing it, since the gasket is necessary for the engine windage tray. Also, get the front end of the vehicle and carefully lift away the oil pan and windage tray.
