2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Camshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove a Camshaft on 2007 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Before removing the camshaft, uncover the cylinder head, position the engine at TDC for cylinder No. 1 and ensure the camshaft's V6 marks are at the 12 o'clock position. Mark one timing chain link on each side of the V6 mark on the camshaft sprocket to guide your work during installation. To stop major harm and potential problems starting the engine, never pull or twist on the camshaft target wheel. Turn the camshaft sprocket bolt counterclockwise, but leave it in place and against the sprocket. Both timing chain tensioners should be secured before removing the camshaft sprockets to avoid them pushing too far which would mean removing the timing chain cover for resetting. Slip Special Tool 8379 between the timing chain strands and use it to tap the chain to the tensioner arm and guide. Pull out the camshaft position sensor before holding the camshaft with Special Tool 8428 Camshaft Wrench, then remove the bolt and sprocket. Turn each bolting ring 1/2 turn at a time so that the load is off the bearing cap, making sure not to work too hard so as not to destroy the bearing caps. You should mark each rocker before you remove the camshaft, because they might slide downwards when the part is out. In the end, take off the camshaft bearing caps and the camshaft.
