2007 Jeep Commander Parking Assist Distance Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Rear Parking Assist Distance Sensor on 2007 Jeep Commander?
A: For rear service and repair of the Parking Assist Distance Sensor, the sensors and their spacers can be replaced separately, but the brackets for the sensors are attached and bonded to the back of the bumper fascia. Start by inserting the O-ring spacer onto the circumference of the sensor membrane, with the wide part of the O-ring facing the sensor body and the other narrow part up against the sensor membrane and your camera's back panel. Then, put the sensor into the sensor bracket on the back of the rear bumper fascia until the bracket latches on top and bottom over both sides of the sensor, leaving the sensor membrane flush with the outside of the fascia. Placing each sensor membrane in the back over the rear fascia holes is essential because an O-ring pinched during installation could disrupt how park assist sensors function. At that stage, I recommend putting the wire harness connector into the sensor connector receptacle behind the fascia. First, set the bumper fascia onto the rear of the vehicle for the park assist sensors on the inside and then reconnect the negative battery cable.
