2008 Chrysler Crossfire Clock Spring Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Faulty Clock Spring on 2008 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: When the Clock Spring is bad, damaged or the driver air bag has activated, it should be replaced, as it cannot be fixed. First, disconnect and awpply insulation to the negative terminal on your battery which will turn off the supplemental restraint system and let the system capacitor discharge for two minutes. Rotate the steering wheel until you see that the wheels point straight ahead. At first, put the front wheels in front of the car, disconnect the negative battery cable and let the capacitor discharge. Click the driver side air bag out, but be sure it is not placed face down on anything hard. Then, unscrew the steering wheel tapered bolt with the right equipment and remove the steering wheel from the center. Unfasten both screws holding the Clock Spring to the steering column upper housing and remove the Clock Spring afterward. Afterwards, take the Clock Spring away from the steering angle sensor. Should you wish to use the old Clock Spring again, hold the Clock Spring rotor in place until you rereplace the spring to prevent the clock being off center; if the center is not maintained, you will need to center it again before reinstalling.
