2008 Chrysler Pacifica Rear Crossmember Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear Crossmember on 2008 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: Always begin servicing or repairing the rear cross-member by taking off the negative battery cable and removing the spare tire. Lock the automatic adjuster by pushing the parking brake down harder, followed by raising and supporting the vehicle. For stability during removal and installation of the rear suspension, support the forward part of the engine cradle with additional jack stands. Unbolt the rear wheels and their tires and take out both the hubs and bearing units too. After that, remove the back end of the exhaust system, making sure to loosen the parking brake brake shoe adjustment if you need to for the cable button release. Pull the left rear cable button inside and remove it from the equalizer and while doing this, secure the connector for the front cable with pliers. After that, pull the cable button for the right rear inboard and take out the lever. Grab the left rear brake bracket's mount and separate it from the front of the rear crossmember; afterward, loosen the right rear hose's routing bracket and tie both brake hoses aside. Should your vehicle be AWD, uninstall the rear driveline module and the two rear half shafts. On the body, mark the sites where the rear suspension crossmember joins, then put a jack under its center and secure the jack. Disconnect the bolts supporting the lower shock absorber at each corner and those joining the crossmember with the left side of the vehicle as well. Gently guide the jack down so that the left side of the crossmember lowers just a bit, then you can easily remove the coil spring and isolator. Bring the left corner of the crossmember back to place and connect the old mounting bolts loosely for now. Pull the car to the right and repeat the procedure, paying attention to lower the jack slowly and extract the coil spring and the isolator. Once the right side is back near the left side, take out the bolts you installed there during step 1. Lift the jack and take away the propeller shaft from the alignment pin while supporting it with a bungee or cord. After moving the jack down more, have the crossmember at a workable level and unfasten the bolts and nuts holding the stabilizer bar to each stabilizer link, plus the ones holding the stabilizer bar cushion retainers to the crossmember. Get rid of the stabilizer cords and smoke rings by lifting them off the crossmember. Collapse both sets of cable retainer fingers and then disconnect both of the rear crossmember cables. Pay attention to how fasteners are oriented when you install them, then take out the bolts and nuts that hold the spring link, toe link, compression link, tension link and camber link to the crossmember. Carefully take the knuckle and its attached parking brake cable and links from the rear suspension crossmember and in case the ABS wheel speed sensor routing clips are needed for replacement, remove them as well before you lift and lift out the crossmember from the jack head.
