2008 Chrysler Pacifica Sway Bar Kit Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Sway Bar Kit for the Rear on 2008 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: Place cushions under the sway bar kit to start, so the slits in the bushings face in front and the flat side points to the crossmember. Following this, place retainers on the cushions and remove the sway bar kit from the crossbar, placing it once more with all the cushions and retainers attached onto the crossmember. Gently place the cushion retainer bolts, don't fasten yet and then secure the bar to each sway bar link with a bolt and nut, also left loose. Tighten the cushion support bolts until they reach 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Slide the crossmember up to the mounting points, put the propeller shaft onto its pin and put the shocks into the holes in the spring links. Up until the left mounting bolts are installed, lift the crossmember and leave the right side bolts untouched, not installing them yet. Gradually let the jack down to get the other side of the crossmember low enough for coil spring installation and then add the spring and isolator, placing the lower part of the coil against the abutment. Using the jack, position the coil spring and lower end part of the shock absorber on the right side and put in and fit the bolt and nut, without getting them too tight. Move the right side crossmember up and mount it with its bolts, making sure they fit snug but aren't fully tightened. Remove the bolts holding the crossmember on the left side and then lower the jack so the left crossmember will drop easily for the coil spring installation. Put the coil spring and isolator on the left side, so the lower end coil sits properly against the abutment. Once the jack is lowered, line up the spring and coil area of the shock with the car, bolt on the lower mounting bolt loosely and fully tighten everything later. Ascend the left part of the crossmember, then place the installation bolts, ensuring they are rather snug yet not securely in place. Align the mounts to the same positions as before using the crossmember and then use a torque wrench to tighten each crossmember bolt to 163 Nm (120 ft. lbs.). Lift the jack right under the rear driveline module/crossmember, then remove it fully. When your vehicle has AWD, place the rear driveline module so that the reference marks are aligned and press in each mounting bolt, tightening them to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Join each wheel speed sensor harness connector to the spare tire mounting support and link the vehicle wiring harness connector to every wheel speed sensor harness connector. Fit the rear brake calipers, so that the abutment shims are added on the caliper brackets on the car legs and when the calipers are slotted into place, slide the guide pins backward to clear the mounting holes. Line the top of the outboard brake shoe with the caliper slide abutment and then turn the caliper so the lower part is against the brake rotor. Place the caliper guide pin bolts in the proper places and tighten each to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.). Attach the screws of the left and right rear brake hose routing brackets to the front of the rear crossmember. Position the cable button on the right rear cable into the connector, secure the left rear cable's button into the equalizer and finally push against the cable with both hands to secure the buttons fully. Next, put back the rear half of the exhaust system and fasten the wheel nut bolts to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) on each side. Drop your vehicle and click the automatic adjuster lever on the parking brake. If you don't have AWD, put the spare tire beneath the car. Place the vehicle onto a lift or adjustable rack so that you can easily lift it and then you will be able to reach the mounting bolts underneath. Turn the shock absorber lower mounting bolts to 102 Nm (75 ft. lbs.) and the sway bar link bolts to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) and follow with a wheel alignment.
