Q: How to Install a Wheel Cylinder and Its Brake Components on 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Place the wheel cylinder in position on the brake support plate and fasten it with bolts tightened to 13 Nm (115 in. lbs.). Hand tighten the brake tube nut onto the wheel cylinder so the torque is 17 Nm (145 in. lbs.). applying Mopar(R) Brake Lubricant or a similar product to both the spot where the shoe meets the support plate and the anchor. Check the brake shoes before putting them in place. After that, put the brake shoe assembly on top of the wheel cylinder and attach it to the brake support plate. Put both the hold-down pins through the support plate and shoes from behind, then move the spring clips along the pins and install them. First, insert the lower return spring and press down on the parking brake cable return spring. After that, connect the cable to the parking brake lever and make sure the spring is under the retaining tab. Slide the hub and bearing onto the spindle, add a new hub nut and tighten it to 217 Nm (160 ft. lbs.). Place the hub and bearing dust cap, shoe gauge the brake shoes to the drum diameter and lastly mount the brake drum. Place the wheel and tire onto the studs, attaching them with mounting nuts tightened to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Turn the wheel a bit to see that the brake drums scrape a little bit on the shoes, then set the car on the ground, remove the brake pedal holder and bleed the cylinder if necessary. After everything else, perform a road test to check that your brake is working properly.
