2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser Parking Brake Shoe Parts and Q&A
Q: How to install Parking Brake Shoes on 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Replace and install the parking brake shoes on each side of the vehicle first and only then continue with the last steps. Hex the front brake shoe on the adapter, place the hold-down pin through the shoe from the back, lock the shoe in place with the clip and ensure the clip isn't touching any nearby parts. Place the upper shoe return spring onto both shoes, then place the rear brake shoe over the anchor block until it is lined up with the adapter and the parking brake actuator lever is between the front and rear shoes. After that, mount the lower return spring on the shoes and fit the brake shoe adjuster in between the front and rear shoes, so the star wheel points toward the rear of the car. Run the hold-down pin through the rear shoe and fasten it with the hold-down clip, as before, placing the clip to keep it from touching other added components. Use the brake shoe gauge to make sure your parking brake shoes are 171 mm (6.75 inches) in diameter. Slide the rear spindle hub and bearing over, add a NEW hub and bearing retaining nut and tighten it to 217 Nm (160 ft. lbs.). Attach the hub, the bearing dust cap and then set in the brake rotor. Loosen the caliper guide pin bolts, place the disc brake caliper over the rotor and on the brake adapter and tighten the two guide pins to 22 Nm (192 in. lbs.). Next, plug in the tire and wheel bundle, tighten the wheel mounting hardware to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.), adjust the parking brake shoes as essential and bring the vehicle down.
