2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser Brake Disc Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace the Rear Brake Disc in the BR4 Performance Brake System on 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: For replacement and reinstallation of the rear brake rotor, only parts specifically meant for the BR4 system should be used; mixing with brakes from other systems is forbidden. Soak the hub in cleaning fluid and dry it before adding the rotor, to make sure all dirt and corrosion near the mount point is gone. After that, secure the brake rotor over the studs on the hub and bearing. Cover both the adapter caliper slide abutments with plenty of Mopar(R) Multipurpose Lubricant or a substitute. Be careful not to harm the guide pin bushings or sleeves as you put the caliper assembly onto the adapter. Begin with the caliper and brake pads sitting over the rotor, holding the caliper's bottom with your hand against where the caliper slide ends and turn up the caliper top. Set the guide pin bolts in the caliper using care, make sure they are not cross-threaded and tighten until you reach 22 Nm (192 in. lbs.). After that, fit the tire and wheel assembly and tighten the mount nuts to a torque of 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). If more shoe adjustment is needed, do this, lower the car and pump the brake pedal a few times to put the pads against the rotor. After that, make sure the brake fluid level is correct and test the vehicle on the road, using several stops to put the brake pads on the rotors.
