2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser Wheel Cylinder Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Wheel Cylinder and Ensure Proper Brake Functionality on 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Place the wheel cylinder on the brake support plate so it's level, then secure it with bolts that are tightened to 13 Nm (115 in. lbs.). Thread the brake tube nut into the wheel cylinder by hand and tighten it to 17 Nm (145 in. lbs.). Dab Mopar(R) Brake Lubricant into the contact parts of the shoes on the support plate and secure them and check that the brake shoes are in good condition before setting them up. Have one pre-assembled shoe over the wheel cylinder, hold the shoe to the support plate and push the rear pins from the top through the hold-down bracket and shoes. First, slide the shoe hold-down spring clips over the pins, then install the lower return spring. Take the parking brake cable return spring, bend it so that the cable joins the parking brake lever underneath the tab. After doing that, slide the bearing and the hub onto the spindle, place a NEW nut into the hub before attaching it to the spindle and tighten it to 217 Nm (160 ft. lbs.). Use the dust cap to tighten the wheel to the brake drum, use a brake shoe gauge to set the brake shoes where they should touch the drum and install the brake drum. Attach the tire and wheel to the car, holding the wheel mounting nuts tight against the hub until they reach 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Rotate the back wheel to check that the brakes lightly contact the drum, lower the car, take out the brake pedal holder, bleed the wheel cylinder as required and try it out on the road to make sure it works.
