2008 Dodge Caliber Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Correctly Install a Brake Caliper on 2008 Dodge Caliber?
A: After checking out the brake pads and discovering they need to be replaced, do so before attaching the disc brake caliper. To avoid damaging the caliper pistons, set a wood block over them and use hand pressure or a C-clamp to push them all the way back inside their bores. Be cautious when attaching the caliper to the adapter bracket so you don't harm the guide pin boots. Protrude guide pins into the caliper adapter fully so that they won't come in contact with anything during installation. Put the disc brake caliper onto the brake pads attached to the brake caliper adapter bracket. Place the caliper guide pin slots over the bracket's holes and fasten both the upper and lower guide pin bolts at 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.). During installation, the portion of the banjo that has a machined step should be facing the caliper. Use a new washer at each end of the brake flex hose, insert the banjo bolt in the caliper and tighten the bolt by hand to a pressure of 50 Nm or 37 ft. lbs. Set the tire and wheel assembly into position, tightening all the wheel mounting nuts to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Raise the vehicle, take out the brake pedal holding tool and release any air in the caliper when required. Do a road test, stopping the car several times to allow material from the first engine oil to wear off and the brakes to sit properly.
